I’ve long held the belief, and shared with thousands, that success is a series of small steps. Think about it; how did you get where you are today? Whether learning to ride a bicycle, building a business, or growing a family, it took time! My approach I refer to it as Incremental Gains that are small steps of progress, that over time, add up to be huge accomplishments.
There is no overnight success! If you’re looking for it, forget it! Those who are successful will tell you it took time of often doing the same things over and over. Think of successful people in any sport; they practiced drills and certain game plans over and over until they could execute them flawlessly.
Finding out what works and then do the same thing over and over is what achieves success! Master the Mundane is another view of achieving success that aligns with Incremental Gains.
Try it!
Pick a goal that you want to achieve 12-months from today. Then break it down to small steps of incremental progress. If you want to run a marathon in 12-months, the small steps are to start walking more, jogging, and then running 1-mile, then 2 miles, and let them add up over time. Start eating a little healthier today and tomorrow and over time, you’ll be in better shape and that will help you run your marathon.
I used the marathon example as it is what I did; I ran the first two Blue Angel Marathons in Pensacola, Florida, in 1983 and 1984. I applied theses same principles then and guess what? They worked and they still work for me now in every aspect of my life where I apply them!
